How To Beat Tiredness
Running a business takes a lot of time and energy. Often, there may not seem enough hours in the day to achieve what you want to, or complete what you have to.
If you’re concentrating on building up your business, you may well start to neglect your own needs. But burning the candle at both ends is not good for you or, ultimately, your work.
Here are a few tips to help you beat tiredness and keep your energy levels up where they need to be.
Eat properly
We all know that eating three proper, balanced meals a day is necessary to avoid ill health, but it’s all too easy to skip lunch if we’re tied up in meetings.
Instead of worrying too much about set mealtimes, try at least to eat something small and healthy every four hours or so. That way, you’ll maintain your blood sugar and energy levels and stave off the tiredness which often accompanies hunger.
Drink the right things
Drinking water is without doubt the best way to stay hydrated and keep our brains in top condition. Have a bottle of water by your side throughout the day – it doesn’t have to be expensive, as normal tap water is fine.
Avoiding too much alcohol and caffeine will also help you stay more alert during the daytime. Keep these to a minimum.
Exercise regularly
It may be the last thing you want to do when you’re tired after a long day at work, but gentle exercise is actually a fantastic way to boost your energy levels.
Try a brisk walk, cycle or run around the park. The fresh air will help invigorate your body, while the exercise will increase your fitness and help maintain your health.
Get enough sleep
If you’re not getting enough sleep each night, you will inevitably feel tired during the day.
Most adults need between six and eight hours’ sleep every night. If you’re getting by on less, your health and energy levels will eventually suffer, even if it’s not in the short term.
If you’re having difficulty sleeping, make sure you set aside time to relax before bedtime, and try to go to bed at the same time each day, and get up at a regular time too. Ensure your bedroom is a pleasant, relaxing, email- and phone-free place where you can switch off from the pressures of work.
Let go of stress
One of the main causes of tiredness, stress is experienced by most of us at some time or another. Business owners are often under immense pressures, having to look after the interests of their firm and staff while trying to juggle family life too.
Try to take some time away from the business every day, even if it’s just for half an hour, in order to relax doing something you love. If you can make it totally unconnected to your business, all the better.
Whether it’s listening to music, playing an instrument, fishing, playing sport, reading or even just watching your favourite TV programme, taking time out to do something you enjoy will help you stop stressing about your problems.
If you find this doesn’t work, or if your issues are too big to forget, remember that talking to someone always helps.
