When I launched in 2008 it was just me, it took me a long time to hire a team because I was against being seen as a marketing agency. I have always wanted to give a dedicated service that’s personal, I also don’t agree about taking credit for clients success, it doesn’t sit right with me.

Over the years I have built a team of talented individuals that care about the business just as much as me.

They are all in-house, full time, we do not outsource.

What made you choose marketing as a career?
I didn't, it chose me. I believe things happen for a reason and I have loved being part of a fantastic team and learning about the world of marketing and how fast it changes.

Since working in digital marketing, I have learned that I can be creative and organised, and I love creating new processes and systems to make better workflows.

Lastly, where do you see the world of marketing going?
I think SEO and Google ads will lead the marketing industry, there are many tools available however, people still need agencies to research and deliver data.

Social media is something that most people can/will do themselves with all the readily available tools and software, for example: ai and creative software like Canva. Social media is all video content now. That being said, people can be too close to their business and need people like us to create media that converts.

More empathy. We are all just trying to get through 'life'

Lastly, where do you see the world of marketing going?
In the short term I think personalisation will become massive to give each user an individual experience. In the long term I think marketing will be a fully immersive experience for the end user using augmented reality, virtual stores and interactive ads. All powered by AI but you need the skills to use the AI. That's where we fit in.

Mya has been with the company 8 years and is a key supporter of what Carrie-ann and her company stand for. Mya is one of the most experienced social media experts you will come across and enjoys regular invitations to speak on mainstream TV and radio channels.

Silly

What made you choose marketing as a career?
It's not something I planned, it just caught my attention when I was considering an apprenticeship all those years ago. I liked the idea of working in an industry where no day will ever be the same.

If you could describe your boss (Carrie-ann) in one word what would it be? Don't be shy, she can take it.
Temperamental.
A bit like Marlin from finding memo, can be grumpy but very loving and nurturing.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
Less drama in the world. There's so much fighting and uncertainty at the moment that it can feel a bit dark.

Lastly, where do you see the world of marketing going?
I think anyone can be in influencer now, so that area of marketing may lose popularity in time. I think the culture will still exist, but it will look very different, who knows! I also believe that AI will become more prominent and static content will continue to decline.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
Literally, as in I could wave a magic wand? change human nature to something a bit more compassionate - i.e. desires to pool to resources to sort out hunger, get rid of inequality / resolve conflict. super cliche but if you did give me one thing to change, that'd be it. lots of problems could be solved if individual desire to make more money/get more power didn't trump a lot of things... there's some irony there with being in marketing hahaha.

A continued shift by the younger generations towards short and fast video content / trends on social media. Attention spans and receptiveness to marketing campaigns to continue to decline. AI content to become ever more prominent. A greater focus on building brand affinity and customer experience.

I’ve always loved being creative, especially when it comes to visuals. Marketing lets me bring ideas to life through posts, branding, and storytelling.

Strong. I see her as a really strong person as she is always confident in what she does.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
If I could change one thing about the world it would be kindness. If the world was kinder to each other a lot of problems would be solved and it would be a nicer place to be.

Lastly, where do you see the world of marketing going?
I think the world of marketing is becoming a lot more visual and personalised. Brands are needing to become much more personal with their audience by sharing more video content of themselves and their business to show they are relatable. People want to see the real side of a business. I am asking a lot more of my clients to share videos of them speaking and it has increased engagement and interest.

I liked the fact that it's a fast-paced and agile industry, what you learn today may be outdated tomorrow. It's a role that requires creative solutions, there's no one size fits all solution.

Caring, Carrie-Ann really takes onboard how you're feeling and tries to find actionable solutions or help if possible.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
For everyone to be able to be just as productive, but without any stress.

I see AI becoming more involved, not replacing human input completely but to act as a sidekick to bounce ideas off and help come up with strategy. I think that all marketing roles will still need people, I can't see AI replacing us completely.

Marketing is the kingpin for almost all businesses, these days you can set up a website in a matter of hours, implement some form of marketing and get your first sale/lead the same day. It can be really fun and you can really make a difference.

I think we will see the introduction of easy to set up, all-in-one, multi-platform AI driven marketing campaigns, we have already seen hints of this in some areas of marketing, but as they do now, will perform worse than manual campaigns

Marketing is going to be leaning towards brand identity, so your customers can resonate with a brand, and automation so mundane tasks can be completed easier which should hopefully result in more time spent on meaningful marketing activities which have the biggest impact

I think marketing will become more personal and custom to the end user with advances in AI and LLMs, I think this will change how users use search engines becoming more conversational and specific rather than searching for broader terms.

  • Carrie-ann has been managing our SEO since 2021 ( and currently does!) when I joined Innovative Trials as Marketing Manager. Their work has been PHENOMENAL and one of the main reasons our website increased inbound enquiries by 150% YoY in 2021, 200% YoY in 2022 and 70% in 2023.
